Emergency Response
The Pitt Meadows Fire and Rescue Services is responsible for
providing fire and rescue services to the Pitt Meadows Regional
Airport (YPK) and all of the aircraft that use it.
In
2002 we began a formal training program designed to certify all
firefighters to the Aircraft Emergency Response (NFPA 1003)
Awareness level for structural firefighters.
Currently
all responses for incidents involving the airport or aircraft are
responded to using existing structural apparatus. Both fire
engines have Class B Foam extinguishing agents which are used for
flammable liquid fires, such as those seen at air crashes. All of
the rescue equipment is authorized for use on aircraft. There are
no specialized Aircraft Rescue-Fire Fighting (ARFF)
apparatus (commonly referred to as “crash trucks”) at the airport
at this time. We have a very good working relationship with the
airport authority and with the NAVCAN control tower. We have full
radio capability for communication with the tower and aircraft and
regularly train on and around the airport property. |
