Emergency Vehicle Operation

One of the most important jobs firefighters have is to make sure that they get to the scene!

Regular Training
When calling for assistance the public assumes that the firefighters and other emergency responders will get to the scene in a safe and quick manner. In order to do that the Pitt Meadows Fire and Rescue Service ensures that all staff under go regular Emergency Vehicle Driver and Operator training.

This includes an initial airbrake endorsement onto their Drivers License. Next, each member is put through an Emergency Vehicle Operator (EVO) course via our department instructor.

Each member much undergo training on basic defensive driving, operation of large and heavy vehicles, emergency response driving, fire pump operations, fire flows, fluid hydraulics, and Motor Vehicle Law in B.C.

Emergency (“Code 3”) driving is a tremendous emotional rush. It is also one of the most dangerous activities any emergency responder can engage in. Every year numerous firefighters are killed or injured in accidents while responding to calls or returning to the station. At the PMFRS we never want that to happen to us!
