Fire Suppression

Certainly the most well known and visible role of the fire department is fire suppression. Since 1941 the Pitt Meadows Fire and Rescue Service has been “professionally” responding to fires of all shapes and sizes.

There are many components to firefighting. From the use of self-contained breathing apparatus, to forcible entry tools, to ventilation, to ladders, to hoses, to communications, to teamwork all components must be mastered by each firefighter. At any given incident any member of the department may be asked to perform any given task in order to facilitate the extinguishment of fire.

Fire suppression is very hard work and dangerous. It requires a high level of fitness and skill from all personnel. At the end of an incident it is just time to rest.
