| Fire Code Tips
- General Information
General The information
in this section is reproduced from the B.C. Fire Code and
B.C. Building Code, as well as other related District
Bylaws and industry standards. This information in
this section provides for the safety of the occupants in existing
buildings, the elimination or control of fire hazards in and
around buildings, the installation and maintenance of certain life
safety systems in buildings, the installation and maintenance of
posted signs and information, and the establishing of a fire
safety plan in those occupancies where it is considered necessary.
Responsibility
The B.C. Fire Code (Section 1.1) requires that unless
otherwise specified, the owner or the owner's authorized agent
shall be responsible for carrying out the provisions of this
Code. Furthermore, all records of all tests and maintenance
must be available to the fire inspector including annual
servicing by qualified service personnel.
The Pitt Meadows Fire Department Bylaw allows for the use of
fees which will apply to all occupancies requiring re-inspection
as determined during regular inspections of the premises by fire
department personnel. Re-inspections, and subsequent fees, will be
required if the owner/occupant are found to be in violation of the
requirements of the BC Fire Code. The general requirements
outlined in this section comprise the majority of the violations
which regular inspections uncover.
