Volunteer Firefighter of the Month
Juan Ferreyro

Juan joined the department as a volunteer on
May 6, 2008. Juan is a very enthusiastic member. He has
demonstrated a great sense of humour and invariably participates in
extra daytime practices. He's a young and energetic guy who is
fast becoming a very dependable and skilled firefighter who is
respected for both his skills, and his experience, by the other
members. Juan has also completed his firefighter certification
to the NFPA 1001 FF2 level. Juan is our first member who was
once a part of the Junior Firefighter Program with Pitt Meadows
Secondary School (2006/2007).
Juan works many jobs and is currently focused
on Ski Patrol at Mt. Seymour. He has demonstrated and
recognized a true passion for paramedicine and is pursuing his
Primary Care Paramedic Certification at this time. He is
hoping for a career either as a paramedic or firefighter in the
future. An avid athlete, Juan is involved in many sports
including volleyball, skiing/snowboarding, soccer and others.
His passion for his heritage is great and he takes quite a bit of
friendly "ribbing" at the hall about his Latin heritage; in
particular, what country exactly he is from. He has been
mistaken for, and accused of being, many nationalities but deep down
Argentina is his home. Juan is excellent at taking the jokes
of his fellow firefighters about all things "Juan" - his hair, his
accent, his nationality, his clothes, and his youthful mistakes.
Affectionately known by many monikers here (because his full name of
Juan Facundo Ferreyro Ayaya is much too hard to pronounce for most
of us), his most common nickname of "Facu" is but one of many he has
received. And for one of the youngest guys in the department,
he is also very good at dishing it back, as many have experienced!
Very close with his family, especially his
younger brother, Juan definitely exhibits maturity beyond his years
in recognizing the need for balance in life between work, fun and
family. Facu has a great future here for as long as he wants
to stay and is a member who fits in with all and is earning the
respect of everyone in the department.
Thank you Juan!
